Fortner Engineering is an FAA Certified Repair Stations specializing in the hydraulic component maintenance requirement airlines, repair stations, OEM's and distributors worldwide. Through decades of experience, Fortner Engineering has developed a broad range of repair capabilities for all commercial aircraft types.

                                   

A key component of this position is to improve work flow, implement standard work practices and instill continuous improvement through internal / external collaboration and problem-solving methodology. Participation and cooperation with and in corporate strategic programs and other Wencor businesses also a requisite.

Summary:

The lap test technician will be responsible for testing and evaluating incoming Lap Assemblies (Spool and Sleeve Assemblies), determining the extent of necessary repairs and ability to repair and complete final testing of Lap Assemblies. The technician will need to be familiar with flow grinding parts, using grinding tools for modifying laps and final testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes the following:  

  • Ability to measure flows, leakage and force and the ability to measure and plot or record final results also required. 
  • Ability to lap fit and adjust clearance, hone to specifications, measure clearances using micrometers, micro caters, calipers and any other measuring device needed.
  • The technician will need to have the ability to follow instructions, assemble some parts as well as possess good practices for working with O-rings and specialty seals. 
  • Qualified candidates will need to have good communications skills as well as a high degree of attention to detail. Good troubleshooting skills also desired.
  • Properly interface with other managers, engineering and supervisors, as well as, all employees at all times.

Qualifications:  

  • 5 years of related experience or some combination of education and experience is possible depending on experience.

Language Skills:                                                       

  • Ability to read and interpret federal regulations, customer, engineering drawings, manufacturer's maintenance manuals and sketches as required. Additional documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals as required.
  • The ability to write routine procedures and correspondence when required.

Reasoning Ability:                                                    

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
